We were called to a property in Maitland on November 14th 2012. It was reported there was a pony in a paddock who could not walk and had been abandoned by her owners. What we found was disgraceful.
A lovely little brown 8yr old shetland mare who was crippled with the pain of founder and complete hoof neglect. Her toes were almost curled into eyptian slippers.
We provided her pain relief while we returned home to collect the float. This darling little girl loaded without problem and traveled home beautifully. The farrier tended to her feet 2 days later and she will now be trimmed every 4 weeks. Her tendons have been stretched and her hind legs twist and skew as she walks. She has learnt to survive this way so her back toes did not hit her front legs. The process could take up to 12 moths to get her right.
